Tacky Tourists
It was "Tacky Tourist" theme at our annual guild auction this evening. The guild members are such great sports! The event included a silent auction with lots of amazing items, stuff for sale, as well as our live auction, with Donna J as the Auctioneer. We had alot of fun competing for fabrics and devouring the assorted selection of desserts. Most of us spent more than we'd planned while others showed great restraint! In all, it was a great evening, and I'm sure we raised a generous amount of cash to go to some worthy cause!

Black and White Quilt
Just constructed and quilted this "Black and White Quilt" for Tiffany R.
When she saw the B & W quilt my son made for his then-girlfriend (with my help, of course!) over a year ago, she has always wanted one for her own. The only criteria were that it be queen-sized and black and white, the pattern didn't matter, the simpler the better, even just squares would make her happy. Well, just squares didn't interest me much, but I did choose the base pattern from Blue Meadows design(their blog is on my list), it uses big pieces of fabric and goes together fairly quickly. The original pattern has words appliqued on it, (see Debra McCracken's blog, Quiltworx at the Flamingo for her version), but I subsituted with circles and squares, as it just needed something.
Oh yes, and that floral fabric highlighted is from Flamingo Quiltworx's selection, don't you just love it? Modern and "stylin"!!!
I am pleased with the way it turned out. There is just a simple meandering pattern quilted across it.

Oriental Fans
I just completed quilting this absolutely gorgeous quilt for Roberta H. She is definitely a perfectionist regarding each stage of it's construction, I couldn't believe how flat it hung, in spite of all the piecing that went on.
I love this particular pattern, and the way the secondary pinwheels show up within the design. I would love to
make one for myself! And I adore the colours and patterns in these oriental fabrics, I believe most were purchased from Linda at The Last Stitch in Kaslo, BC
Roberta chose a butterfly pattern by Jodi Beamish called "Papillon" to be quilted across the whole quilt.

Border Collies
My friend Sharon from Vernon was visiting us this weekend with her Border Collie dog, Bailey. It just so happens that we have two border collie's of our own, and one is also named Bailey! It is always a great time for the dogs to play, and we get alot of enjoyment watching them interact.
Sharon has a good friend, Satu, who recently made a border collie quilt for her, and she brought it along for show and tell. It is fantastic! And the border collie's on the fabric resemble each of our dogs! The quilt is a great example of what you can make with pillow-panel type prints and the co-ordinating fabrics.
It is virtually impossible to get our dogs to pose in front of the camera together, but here is our best attempt! Our puppy Milli is sitting in front of the quilt, Sharon's dog Bailey is sitting on the quilt, and then the two of them are laying in front of the quilt.

Molly, Queen of Scraps!
Today I finished and
delivered a quilt belonging to 90-year-old Aunt Molly. She is actually my husband's Great-Aunt, who still lives independantly with her husband Walter. Once she retired, she took up quilting, and hasn't stopped since! She has made dozens of quilts, maybe even a hundred! She used to hand-quilt them all, but lately has been machine quilting them, and I've been lucky enough to have machine-quilted a few for her. I must say, she is a very good piecer! Her quilts are very square!
Aunt Molly handed me a stack of quilts she wants donated to Romanian Orphanage children. There is group of dedicated women in town (my mother-in-law included) who make quilts to send to Romania, and Molly likes to support their cause. She has alot of scraps to use up, and boy, does she use them! The photo shows 4 quilts and 3 pillows that are destined for Romania, and the blue rail fence quilt they are on is a hand-quilted one she gave to me several years ago!
Molly uses the tiniest of scraps, even 1 ". Here is a quilt I put together with blocks she made up from the tiny strips. She also makes potholders and seat cushions with the scraps. She is the Queen of Scrap Quilting!

Mystery Quilt
Just completed a quilt for a client that she does not want published, as she is going to surprise someone with it for next Christmas. So, it is truly a Mystery! Remind me to post it next year!

Wrap-A-Smile Rotoplast Quilts
Chinese Lanterns
Just finished this Chinese Lantern quilt for Denise C.
I free-handed some loopy loops inside each lantern, with a diamond to fill in the remaining space, then stitched some swirls around each lantern (to match the swirls on the fabric), and more loops in the borders. The lanterns are so colourful, I used some bright variegated threads to go along with them!
I would consider this a medium custom job.
I always get attached to quilts I've spent alot of time on, and this is one of them that I will find hard to give back!
